The use of AI in medicine can still be risky

A study published in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine has examined the possibility of chatbots being used to replace doctors.

Researchers analysed 195 conversations between Reddit users and professional doctors, and similar questions were asked to the ChatGPT chatbot. Independent medical experts then evaluated the answers.

The results showed that, in 79% of cases, the advice given by the AI was rated as “good,” while the majority of physician responses were rated as “acceptable.” Interestingly, ChatGPT was rated as more empathetic, with 45% of its responses being rated as “sympathetic” or “very sympathetic.”

However, experts believe that chatbots should only be used as an additional consulting tool in medicine, as risks still remain.
