CleanTech: India. Industry Overview

The trends in the Indian clean tech ecosystem broadly echo the ones in the global landscape, with the dominance of energy and mobility startups. In 2022, around 143 Indian clean tech startups secured $2.2 billion in funding, with seed capital as the dominant form of equity infusion (~68% of the deals). ~83% of the deals are for less than $5 million and account for less than 15% of the total capital inflows in the space. The clean tech ecosystem in India faces a problem of “missing middle”, with an urgent need to support startups to scale from their initial prototype to being ready to enter the market.
