In an effort to assist businesses in reaching customers across a variety of online channels, Shopify Inc. has added Twitter Inc. to its expanding list of social media partners.
US retailers using Shopify will now be able to create a virtual storefront on Twitter’s e-commerce platform. The development comes after other Shopify partnerships, such as those with Google (Alphabet Inc.) and Facebook (Meta Platforms Inc).
The shares of the Ottawa-based company have dropped 76% this year as a result of a broader decline in IT stocks and challenges faced by e-commerce firms amid post-pandemic rise in in-store buying.
Shopify merchants will have two options for selling their items on Twitter: by listing up to five products on their profile or by utilising Twitter Shops, a test feature that enables vendors to list up to 50 products in a tab connected to their profile.
Elon Musk, the man behind the $44 billion takeover plan for Twitter, has said he wants to make the social media platform a ‘super app’ that incorporates social media, online shopping, and payments. This year, shares of Twitter have decreased 10%.
