The UAE bets on being a new technology hub and ideal location for international talent

In an effort to lure foreign talent and establish itself as a regional technology hub, the United Arab Emirates is forming a cooperation with startup Deel to speed up the visa application process for overseas workers.

Through a strategic partnership with the UAE’s Office for AI, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, payroll and onboarding company Deel will be able to provide its clients, which include companies like Coinbase Global Inc. and Shopify Inc, faster access to visas.

The UAE government has been working to make the nation a more desirable location for international technology enterprises.

Deel has already started onboarding staff as part of the arrangement in recent weeks and it may potentially be expanded to cover tens of thousands of people.

Deel, a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2019, was most recently valued at $5.5 billion in October and has the support of investors such as Coatue and Altimeter Capital. Earlier this summer, Deel made a public offer to buy Australian payroll provider PayGroup, among other acquisition plans.
