Fisker Automotive was known for its production of the Fisker Karma, one of the world's first luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The company debuted the Karma at the 2008 North American International Auto Show and started delivering the vehicles in 2011. However, production was suspended in 2012 due to the bankruptcy of its battery supplier. In 2014, the Karma vehicle design, tooling, and manufacturing facility were purchased by the Chinese auto parts conglomerate Wanxiang Group.
