The South Carolina State Museum is the largest and most comprehensive museum in the state, located in downtown Columbia along the banks of the Congaree River. Founded in 1988, the museum offers four floors of permanent and changing exhibits, including a giant shark exhibit, a dinosaur exhibit, and historic and contemporary exhibitions. It also features a 55ft digital dome planetarium, a 4D theater, and an observatory. The museum provides various services, such as summer camps and professional development opportunities.
