Established in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Future Shop rapidly expanded across Canada, becoming the country's biggest electronics retailer by 1990. With 140 stores nationwide and over 125,000 daily website visitors, Future Shop enjoyed significant growth throughout the 90s, reaching annual sales exceeding $2 billion by 2001. However, in 2015, Best Buy announced the discontinuation of the Future Shop brand, closing 66 locations and consolidating the remaining stores into the Best Buy chain.
