Established in 1986 by Richard M. Fairbanks, the foundation has three focus areas: Education, Health, and the Vitality of Indianapolis. Additionally, it provides grant support to several organizations with a historical connection to the Fairbanks family. The foundation's investment funds are managed by a nine-member board of directors, and its mission is to advance the well-being of Indianapolis and its people.
