Established in 1997, FCT is responsible for coordinating public policies for the Information Society in Portugal and managing the national research and education network. FCT's vision is to establish Portugal as a global reference in research and innovation and ensure that the knowledge generated by scientific research is used for economic growth and the wellbeing of all citizens. FCT supports all areas of research, from exact sciences and engineering to social sciences and the humanities, and connects research with industry through dedicated programs. The agency also acts internationally, ensuring Portuguese researchers have access to international research programs, funding, and networks.
