Founded in 2015 by Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, the Gilbert Family Foundation is a private nonprofit foundation that manages assets to support economic stability and mobility of residents in Detroit and accelerate a cure for neurofibromatosis. The foundation has two bold NF1 research initiatives, the Gene Therapy Initiative and the Vision Restoration Initiative, aimed at developing curative therapies and advancing vision restoration therapies respectively.
