Founded in 2006, Mascoma was headquartered in Lebanon, New Hampshire and acquired by Lallemand in 2014. The company partnered with Tamarack Energy to collaborate on cellulosic biomass to ethanol production. Mascoma aimed to replace gasoline with cellulosic ethanol, using their Consolidated Bioprocessing method that eliminated the need for enzymes and additives. They received funding from Khosla Ventures and Flagship Ventures and focused on developing environmentally sustainable, low carbon biofuels.
