Salix Ventures was founded in 1997 and was based in Nashville, Tennessee. The firm ceased operations on January 25, 2019, but during its time, it pursued a conservative reserve policy when investing at an early stage of a company's development, investing less per first round than many other comparable-sized funds, in order to mitigate the increased risk inherent at that stage of investment and position itself as a dependable participant in later rounds.
