The KCC is responsible for regulating natural gas, electricity, telephone, and transportation vendors, as well as protecting correlative rights and environmental resources of oil and gas producers. It has been providing regulatory service for 125 years and was one of the first state regulatory bodies in the nation. The KCC does not regulate electric cooperatives, water cooperatives, municipalities, wireless telephones, long distance phone services, cable companies, or the internet. Its authority is derived from state legislation and it serves the people of Kansas by regulating the state's energy infrastructure, oil and gas production, and commercial trucking to ensure public safety.
