Established in 1993 by African governments, private investors and non-African financial institutions, Afreximbank extends credit to eligible African exporters, promotes and finances trade between African states and other developing states, and acts as an intermediary between African exporters and importers through the issuance of letters of credit, guarantees and other trade documents. The Bank has an authorized share capital of US$5 billion and operates under two constitutive documents, the Establishment Agreement and the Charter.
