Established in 1957, DEC was a major player in the computer industry, employing over 120,000 people worldwide at its peak in 1990 and generating more than $14 billion in revenue. The company was renowned for its successful PDP and VAX products, which were the most popular minicomputers in terms of sales. DEC was eventually acquired by Compaq Computer Corporation in 1998.
