Description

Founded in 2006 by Glenn Prestwich, William Tew, and Anna Scott, Glycosan BioSystems develops patent-pending Extracel® technology, a hyaluronan-based synthetic extracellular matrix. The company's product offerings include Extracel and HyStem for stem cell research, Extracel-HP and HyStem-HP for controlled growth factor release, and Extracel-X for growing tumor xenografts in mice. With support from the Centers of Excellence Program and the University of Utah, Glycosan closed its first investment round in 2007. In 2011, it was acquired by BioTime, Inc and is now focused on clinical applications, such as treating facial contour defects, tendon repair, degenerative disc disease, vocal fold scarring, glioma, and stroke.
