Austin McChord
Austin McChord is the founder and chief executive officer of Datto, a provider of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions to small and medium sized businesses. He launched his company in 2007 from his father’s basement in Norwalk, Connecticut, with the goal of enabling small businesses around the world to have ongoing access to critical data by providing the industry’s best Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) solutions. Keeping the company largely self-funded and profitable, Austin grew Datto by partnering exclusively with an ever-expanding global network of Managed Service Providers and providing his partners with the knowledge, products, and services they need to succeed. Datto came into national prominence in 2012, when it played a crucial role in helping its partners keep scores of businesses operational despite the ravages of Super Storm Sandy. Since then, Datto has experienced ongoing growth; in 2017, the company was acquired by Vista Equity Partners and merged with Autotask, with Austin staying on as CEO. McChord holds a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics from Rochester Institute of Technology. McChord is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including appearing in Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 list in 2015 and being named an Ernst & Young Technology Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016. He was recently named the youngest member of The Chronicle of Philanthropy's "Philanthropy 50", which is a list of America's biggest donors to nonprofits. He is based in Datto's headquarters, which remain in Norwalk.
