Founded in 2009, Kona Medical is a privately held company based in Bellevue, Washington that has developed a non-invasive therapy for the treatment of hypertension and other disorders. The therapy, called the Surround Sound® Hypertension Therapy System, uses ultrasound imaging to robotically guide the delivery of focused ultrasound energy for renal denervation (RDN), which eliminates the need for radiation, contrast media, shielding, or the Cath lab and reduces the cost and complexity of other technologies. Clinical trials have shown promise in significantly reducing blood pressure with this simple procedure and also provide an excellent safety profile. However, Kona Medical’s technology is investigational and is not yet approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
