TIA plays multiple roles within the National System of Innovation, including catalyzing partnerships, providing funding and support for innovators, facilitating late-stage funding for commercialization, reducing barriers to access high-end skills and equipment, and informing policy issues related to technology innovation. TIA is an initiative of the Department of Science & Technology and manages the SMME Seed Fund, which invests in early-stage ventures in Eastern Africa.
