The German-based company Nicoustic has developed a non-intrusive sensor technology that utilizes Guided Ultrasonic Waves to measure the levels of solids and liquids in separators. The technology is being developed to measure the interface layers between emulsion and foam. The prototype is the result of 20 years of research at Fraunhofer IKTS in Germany and was created in response to a challenge set by Equinor, the Norwegian energy major. Nicoustic's sensors are non-intrusive, making installation and commissioning simple, and no downtime is required. The company is ready for offshore trials.
