With over 3 million patients in the US and the EU combined, and costs in the billions of dollars, the company's medical implant device isolates the left atrial appendage, reducing both arrhythmia and stroke risk. It can be implanted during pulmonary vein isolation ablation or as a standalone procedure, offering cost-effective treatment without the need for anti-coagulants and anti-arrhythmic medicines. AuriGen Medical, a start-up from NUI Galway, is focused on developing the next generation of left atrial appendage implant technology for the treatment of medication-resistant longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation.
