KfW, owned by the Federal Republic and the federal states, provides support for small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurship, environmental protection, housing, infrastructure, education finance, project and export finance, and development cooperation. With no retail branches and no customer deposits, KfW funds its promotional business responsibly and almost entirely via international capital markets. In 2019, KfW raised EUR 80.6 billion and supplied funds totalling EUR 77.3 billion, with 38% spent on measures aimed at protecting the climate and the environment.
