The company has developed an innovative combination of hydro- and electrometallurgy-based extraction processes, resulting in a low-carbon process that generates zero effluent. This allows up to 95% of the components of lithium-ion batteries to be recovered and treated for reuse by battery manufacturers, closing the loop on battery life-cycle. Lithion Recycling aims to commercialize its technology worldwide, with a pilot plant already constructed in 2019 and a first commercial project planned for Quebec, Canada in 2023. The plants using this technology will be compact, modular, and affordable.
