The Lily Foundation is the leading charity in the UK dedicated to combating mitochondrial disease, a genetic condition that severely limits life. With over 10 million people in the UK affected by diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunction, the foundation aims to raise awareness, support those affected, and fund research for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Mitochondrial disease can manifest in various ways, making it challenging to diagnose, but progress has been made in faster and less invasive diagnosis methods. While there is currently no cure, the foundation works in partnership with the NHS and mitochondrial clinics to find effective treatments and therapies, with the ultimate goal of discovering a cure for mitochondrial disease.
