Description

Founded in 2011, Starboard Value is a New York-based venture capital firm that provides investment advice for publicly traded US small cap companies. With a focus on lead investments, the firm has a higher activity rate compared to other organizations, particularly in 2019. Starboard Value typically invests in rounds with one participant and has a track record of committing exits more frequently than other companies, with a notable increase in exits in 2007. The fund's preferred industries include security and semiconductor, and it has invested in popular startups such as Symantec and Mellanox Technologies. The fund primarily invests in companies based in the United States and prefers startups that are at least 20 years old. Starboard Value was created through a spin-off transaction from Ramius LLC, the investment management subsidiary of the Cowen Group.
