Founded in 1965 as a co-operative society, the bank was later incorporated under the Companies Act in 2008 to comply with the requirements for listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. The bank's operations are divided into two main segments: Retail Banking, which includes loans, deposits, and other transactions with retail customers, and Wholesale Banking, which includes loans, deposits, and other transactions with corporate and institutional customers. While the bank generates most of its revenue from Retail Banking, it also offers investment and asset management services. Its operations are primarily in Kenya and South Sudan.
