Led by Aberystwyth University in collaboration with partners at Bangor and Swansea Universities, BEACON utilizes research from Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) to develop fuels from energy crops like high-sugar grasses. Additionally, Bangor University focuses on creating innovative products from new materials and chemicals derived from plants, while Swansea University specializes in using bacteria and fungi to digest plant matter in the biorefining process. With £10.6 million in funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, BEACON aims to contribute to renewable energy development and the transition to a low carbon economy, mitigating the impact of climate change. The company offers research and development expertise in biorefining to support bio-based businesses.
