John Kensey
John has been the CEO of several early stage companies including two in which he had a founder’s role. He also led and became the CEO of an LBO of an engineering/distribution company that was subsequently acquired by a large European public company. His prior experience includes a six-year period with McKinsey & Company, Inc. In 1988 he established Avalon Capital to serve as a platform for his consulting activities and his personal investing in early stage companies. Since then consulting to and investing in seed or early stage companies has been his primary activity. As an “angel investor” he has invested in over fifty such companies, more than thirty of which are still active. He is directly involved with some of these companies as either a board member or in an advisory role. He is also a part time employee of Pacific Alternative Asset Company (PAAMCO) where he serves as an adviser to senior management. John has a BSIE from Stanford University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Graduate School of Business and has completed the course work for is a Ph.D. Candidate in Strategic Management at the Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center, Claremont Graduate School. He is also one of the founders of the Tech Coast Angels and remains active in that organization.

Dr. Paul Voois is a Fund Manager with Cove Fund (www.covefund.com), an early-stage venture fund that invests in Southern California startups in both technology and life sciences. He is also a member of Tech Coast Angels, one of the largest and most active angel investment organizations in the country. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Voois established a track record of building valuable companies with unique, defensible technology in the networking, communications and software industries. In 2002 he co-founded ClariPhy Communications, a venture-backed supplier of optical networking semiconductors that was acquired by Inphi (now Marvell Semiconductor) for $300M in 2016 and now operates as Marvell’s Coherent DSP business unit. He served as ClariPhy’s CEO until 2011 and as Chief Strategy Officer until its acquisition. Prior to founding ClariPhy, he served as CEO of 8x8 (NASDAQ:EGHT), a market leader in voice and video over IP technology. Dr. Voois received an MS and PhD from Stanford and a BS (summa cum laude) from Penn State, all in electrical engineering. He is an inventor on 36 issued United States patents.
