Seema Kumar
Seema is a member of the Communications Leadership Council at Johnson & Johnson and responsible for maintaining the company’s leadership position in innovation and global health. She works closely with Johnson & Johnson Chief Scientific Officer and Worldwide Chairman of Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Paul Stoffels, as well as communication leaders in Corporate and R&D. Seema also serves as the communication leader for the Worldwide R&D Council and several Innovation Centers. Seema was previously Vice President, Global R&D Communications at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, where she has had oversight of internal and external communications across the pharmaceutical R&D enterprise. Prior to joining Janssen, Seema was the chief communications officer at the Whitehead Institute/Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Genome Research. She played a key role in enhancing worldwide public awareness and understanding of the Human Genome Project. Seema has published more than 200 news and feature articles on science and medicine, for which she has won several awards, including an Award of Excellence in writing from the American Medical Writers Association and three Gold Medals for Media Relations, Science Education, and Web Development. Seema holds a master’s degree in science journalism from the University of Maryland, a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, a bachelor of science and communication from the University of Maryland, a graduate diploma in journalism and mass communication, and a bachelor of science in physics from Stella Maris College, in Madras, India.

Paul Stoffels
Paul Stoffels is the Chief Scientific Officer, Johnson & Johnson, and Worldwide Chairman, Pharmaceuticals. As Chief Scientific Officer, he works with the R&D leaders across Johnson & Johnson to set the enterprise-wide innovation agenda. Dr. Stoffels serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Management Committee. Dr. Stoffels has more than 20 years of global experience in both pharmaceutical and HIV/AIDS research and development and has held many leadership positions within Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Stoffels joined Johnson & Johnson in 2002 with the acquisition of Virco and Tibotec, where he was Chief Executive Officer of Virco and Chairman of Tibotec. In 2005, he was appointed Company Group Chairman, Global Virology where he led the development of PREZISTA® and INTELENCE®, leading products for the treatment of HIV. In October 2012, Dr. Stoffels was appointed Chief Scientific Officer, Johnson & Johnson. He chairs the company’s Worldwide Research & Development Council, and provides oversight to Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, the Johnson & Johnson innovations centers, and for product safety for all products of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies worldwide. Dr. Stoffels began his career as a physician in Africa, as part of the Janssen Research Foundation (JRF) under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Janssen, focusing on HIV and tropical diseases research. He studied Medicine at the University of Diepenbeek and the University of Antwerp in Belgium and Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. Throughout his career, Dr. Stoffels has had a passion saving lives and improving quality of life and for using the power of science to solve health care challenges in the developing world. He was instrumental in building the relationship between UNAIDS/WHO and the pharmaceutical industry on provision of HIV drugs in Africa, and has a continued interest in exploring new and collaborative solutions to address serious unmet healthcare needs in the developing world. Dr. Stoffels also represents Johnson & Johnson in discussions on global health topics at international forums such as the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland and the Pacific Health Summit.

As President of Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC, Inc. (JJDC), Chris leads a global team of investment experts based at our J&J Innovation Centers. Chris provides leadership for JJDC’s investing activities in areas of strategic importance to Johnson & Johnson. Chris joined JJDC in October 2019 from J&J’s North America Consumer organization where he served as Vice President, Finance since July 2017. Prior to this, Chris was Chief Financial Officer and Global Head of Procurement, Government Grants Office and Project Management Office for Janssen Research & Development. He has held roles in finance leadership, including Vice President, Finance and CFO for the Global Baby Franchise, Supply Chain, US Selling and Customer Development within the J&J Consumer Sector; CFO for Tibotec-Virco, Finance Director of Janssen R&D in Belgium and Finance Manager of International Operations Control. Chris joined J&J in 1995. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from LaSalle University.

Sue provides strategic finance planning and management leadership and oversight to Johnson & Johnson Innovation as well as Business Development at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. Sue is a strong financial business partner and Credo-based leader who, throughout her tenure at Johnson & Johnson, has provided strategic financial counsel across the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Consumer Health sectors and Corporate Investor Relations. She also served as the J&J lead on an extensive 18-month journey with the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism, exploring new ways to measure a company’s long-term value in cooperation with other multinational corporations, asset managers and asset owners. Before joining Johnson & Johnson, Sue was an auditor for Arthur Andersen, LLP in Philadelphia, PA. Sue received her MBA from Villanova University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from La Salle University, where she currently serves as Treasurer on the Alumni Board. She is CPA licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a Certified Management Accountant. Sue lives near Philadelphia with her husband and 3 teenagers and is an active member of the community where she lives. Her favorite non-work activities include spending time with her husband and children and some early morning runs to clear her mind for the challenges of each day.
