Apnex Medical is a spin-out company of Prospex Medical, Inc., focused on developing active implantable medical devices to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Their devices use hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy to activate upper airway muscles and prevent blockage during sleep, reducing apnoeic episodes. Although the company closed down in 2013 due to disappointing clinical trial results, they continue to work towards improving the health of individuals with sleep disordered breathing. Sleep apnea is a disorder associated with significant long-term health problems.
