Launched in 2006, OPTrust's private markets program aims to build diversified private equity and infrastructure portfolios that will eventually account for 30% of the Plan's total assets. The portfolio has over 50 investments, which are well diversified across a base of parameters including strategy, geography, vehicle and sub-asset class. Infrastructure investments have generated an average net annual return of 16.6%, while private equity holdings have produced an average annual return of 6.5%. The Private Markets Group had a productive year in 2013, with 11 new commitments made to both fund and direct investments.
