Richard Sussman

Richard Sussman

Richard Sussman is a veteran venture capitalist, serial entrepreneur and seasoned finance executive with 20 years’ experience as a founder, board member, advisor and investor. His background spans numerous VC-funded, early stage and globally-traded companies all with market caps above $100M. Sussman is a proven builder of big business whose passions include monetization, transformative innovation, and disruptive content, products, services and technologies that change the way consumers interact with brands, companies and devices. Among his previous ventures include executive roles with The Nielsen Co., IPG Mediabrands, TiVo / Rovi Corporation and Tribune Media / Gracenote. Richard is currenlty Gneral Partner of RebelFund.vc, a new $50M venture fund, in partnership with Nordic Eye VC, and powered by an elite network of top 1% Y Combinator alumni and a sophisticated machine learning algorithm that statistically predicts startup success. Prior, Richard was Founding Managing Partner in a European Venture Fund called Nordic Eye, where he took his portfolio company Weblife – a Cyber Security firm – from $350K to $6M in annual revenue in just eleven months by opening up sales channels across Germany and the UK. The result of this revenue growth yielded an all-cash acquisition of Weblife by Proofpoint (NASDAQ: PFPT), which turned a $3M capital investment from Nordic Eye into a $21M return for its investors in less than a calendar year. Earlier in his career, Sussman was CEO and founder of GorillaExchange, Inc., a web 2.0 social entertainment platform, as well as CEO and co-founder of StreamExchange, Inc. StreamExchange was the first technology service provider that enabled advertisers to embed television-style commercials into targeted streaming content over the Internet. All entities had successful exits. Sussman is often interviewed and profiled on the state of technology by media publications such as Los Angeles Business Journal, TechCrunch, Wall Street Journal, CNBC and Los Angeles Times. He often seen speaking at industry events such as the Goldman Sachs’ Special Situations Group, Digital Hollywood, Digital Analytics Association, and the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). He also speaks at various Private Equity firms and is an occasional Guest Lecturer at UCLA's Anderson School of Management MBA program. He is a recipient of numerous industry awards, including the two-time recipient of ARF’s Great Mind Award, Nielsen's Best of the Best Award and a graduate of the Harvard Business School. Sussman is originally from London, England. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1990. He was raised in Los Angeles, studied and worked in Germany, South Africa and Switzerland. Sussman is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and a devoted husband and father of two children who enjoy spending time together skiing in Utah.

A great #2 makes a #1 Having a strong COO with Board experience enables the CEO to build the greatest Fintech company. When it comes to building future Fintech growth companies, I am experienced with taking responsibility for entire organizations including technology, compliance, legal, operations, finance, and P&L. I have built Fintechs from scratch, sold some too, acquired others on the journey, and participated in two large scale IPOs. I have led financial inspections, audits, and completed turnarounds. Today I serve as Chief Operations Officer and Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors in Coinify. A company that I successfully merged from two early-stage blockchain payment companies, subsequently lead the acquisition strategy of others, into what is today one of the most successful blockchain payment facilitators worldwide. Besides I serve as a Certified Board Member in several Fintech companies with aggressive growth targets. I naturally join with a wealth of experience from top tier global IT companies, successful NASDAQ listed companies down to fast-growing start-ups challenging enterprises on the status quo. As Senior Vice President in Nets Group, I was Group-wide responsible for running an aggressive strategy by Bain/Advent and the Executives to build innovative payment solutions with mobile tokenization, blockchain, biometrics, AI, and IoT. Nets became one of the most successful equity journeys and the second-largest European payment operator when it went public. At Pandora I served the Executive Committee as Vice President and CIO to build the technology and POS infrastructure of a company that doubled in size several times to become the world largest jewelry company and most successful IPOs that year. During my early years at IBM, I was a proud member of a team conducting the world’s first secure financial transactions and later joined Oracle to head E-Commerce and E-Business initiatives, and subsequently, I was made responsible for Strategic Technologies to drive technology adoption of new acquisitions. I believe that I have a rare ability to make sense of technology in a Senior Executive forum, and I continuously support VCs and PEs in making sense of Fintech. I have an MBA and a Bachelor of Economics, a Diploma in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. Excellence in Retail from Harvard, Board of Directors accreditation from the Institute of Directors in London. That's me. Ask my CEO, or any previous ones for that matter, what it means to have a great #2
