The Capital Angel Network aims to build the entrepreneurial community in the region and make it the best place to start a business. They hold nine meetings a year where up to three companies present their proposals to the angels in attendance. The firm also hosts special events throughout the year to engage with the investment and entrepreneurial communities in the National Capital Region. CAN is ranked in the top five most active angel groups in Canada, with over $65M invested in early-stage companies since 2009. More than 50% of their direct investments in 2022 were made in startups with a female co-founder, and 85% of investments to date have been with Gatineau, Ottawa, Kanata, and area-based startups. CAN's membership includes over 55 angel investors, 30% of whom are female. They partner with Invest Ottawa to deliver SheBoot, a six-week investor readiness Bootcamp for women founders, and are members of the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) and Angel Investors Ontario (AIO), collaborating with angel groups and ecosystems across the country.
