The AMR Action Fund is a collaborative venture between over 20 leading pharmaceutical companies, the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Wellcome Trust. It aims to address the urgent need for new antibiotics to combat antibiotic-resistant infections, also known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The fund has raised nearly $1 billion to support clinical research by biotech companies developing innovative treatments for drug-resistant pathogens. Its goal is to bring 2 to 4 new antimicrobials to patients by the end of the decade, focusing on the most-resistant bacteria and life-threatening infections identified by the WHO and CDC.
