Description

The company recruits entrepreneurs who solve specific problems in various sectors such as agriculture, energy, education, financial inclusion, and health. They then empower these entrepreneurs by giving them the power to award pre-committed seed funding to the two ventures ranked highest by the entrepreneurs at the end of every program. Village Capital operates training programs for founders, investors, and communities, and manages a for-profit, managed investment fund that provides early-stage capital to top graduates of each program. Their unique peer-selection model has received McKinsey/Harvard Business Review’s prestigious M-Prize for innovation in 2013, and they have supported more than 550 enterprises across 51 programs in 9 countries. The company has supported over 1,400 startups that have raised over $5 billion in investment capital, made more than 150 investments through its various affiliated funds, and over 20,000 entrepreneurs have improved their investment readiness through its network of entrepreneur support organizations and its platform, Abaca.
