Tesla had to pay $20,000 for 4,000 pies it forgot to pick up

After media coverage of the situation, Musk paid $20,000

Tesla faced controversy when it reneged on a bakery order, leaving Giving Pies owner Wohangi Rasetarinera frustrated. Initially, Tesla requested 2,000 Valentine’s Day pies, then doubled the order to 4,000. Despite the urgency, Tesla abruptly cancelled the order, causing disruptions to the bakery’s operations.

To meet Tesla’s request, Giving Pies had to decline other orders, procure extra supplies, and ready staff for heightened production. However, Tesla provided no compensation for the cancelled order. Rasetarinera criticised Tesla’s corporate culture, accusing it of prioritising convenience over accountability for small businesses like hers.

Following media coverage of the incident, Tesla CEO Elon Musk pledged to address the issue. As a resolution, Tesla compensated the bakery with $20,000.
