In a similar move to Reddit, Stack Overflow will monetise its data by charging a fee

The programmer forum will accept payment from developers who use platform data to train neural networks and large language models

Following in the footsteps of Reddit, Stack Overflow, a developer forum with a vast repository of over 50 million questions and answers contributed by 20 million users, will now require developers who utilise its data to train commercial neural networks and large language models (LLMs) to pay for access.

According to Stack Overflow CEO Prashant Chandrasekara, the company supports Reddit’s approach of compensating platforms that contribute to LLMs.

He further noted that the additional revenue generated through this decision is necessary to attract new users and maintain the provision of high-quality information on the Stack Overflow forum.
