40% of senior managers think younger generation is ill-prepared for workplace demands
Securing offers might pose challenges for recent university graduates spanning the years 2020 to 2023
Researchers from Intelligent, an online student life platform, conducted a comprehensive survey involving 1,243 senior executives to gauge their perceptions of candidates from the zoomer generation – those born between 1997 and 2012.
The findings revealed that a substantial 40% of managers perceive individuals who graduated from universities between 2020 and 2023 as unprepared for the professional world. Remarkably, a staggering 94% of respondents acknowledged their hesitance to hire from this generation: 7% consistently avoid zoomers, 27% tend to, 40% do so occasionally, and 20% choose to do so sometimes.
The prevailing sentiment among top executives is that Zoomers lack the necessary work ethic, exhibit deficient communication skills, and hold entitlement-driven perspectives that presume others owe them something.
When analyzing the reasons behind the unpreparedness of zoomers for the workplace, 62% of concerned top managers attribute it to the influence of modern culture, while 48% point to the lingering impact of the pandemic and its repercussions. Additionally, a significant number of business leaders advocate for etiquette lessons to address what they perceive as a deficiency in the younger generation.
