Leica introduces the world’s inaugural copyright-protected camera

The newly launched M11-P camera offers a means to validate the authenticity of photographs

Leica Camera, a German company, has introduced the M11-P digital camera, marking a significant stride as the world’s inaugural camera designed to safeguard the authenticity of photographs from their capture to publication.

Powered by the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) standard through Content Credentials technology, the M11-P features a chip that records digital certificate data. Each photo taken with the M11-P receives a digital signature, verifiable through a certificate, and the chip also retains a comprehensive history of image editing.

The M11-P shares standard specifications with the Leica M11 Monochrom, boasting a 60-megapixel sensor, an ISO range of 64-50,000, and 256 GB of internal memory (expandable up to 1 TB).

Priced at €8,950, the M11-P emphasises the increasing importance of ensuring the authenticity of visual content in the digital photography era. Leica’s CEO, Andreas Kaufmann, asserts that by establishing authorship, the company is reinforcing trust in digital content and upholding the reputation of Leica cameras.
