Patreon managers seem to believe there is such a thing as too much security
The widely popular platform has confirmed the layoffs in their security team

Patreon laid off five members of their security staff. Emily Metcalfe, a former security engineer at Patreon, wrote on her Linkedin that she joined the company in 2021 and has been let go.
Patreon’s US policy head Ellen Satterwhite confirmed the five layoffs and that many on the security team staff had been laid off, but not the entire team.
The reason is undisclosed, but the business collaborates with outside groups to improve their security skills and undertake regular security regulations, according to Satterwhite.
Security experts across the business started posting open job advertisements for employees who lost their employment at Patreon as soon as the news of the layoffs broke. This year the tech industry has lost thousands of jobs including those in cybersecurity, in part due to overhiring and poor corporate management.
On the website Patreon, content producers can offer monthly membership plans to their audience in exchange for a 5-12% cut. The business claims to have 250,000 creators using its platform.
