Kitty Hawk is the ambitious flying automobile startup sponsored by Google co-founder Larry Page. On a Linkedin post Kitty Hawk wrote they are winding down, stopping construction of the 100-mile range Heaviside vehicle.
Larry Page is distancing himself more and more from the business, but claims to be actively involved in the transition from research to development.
Kitty Hawk will continue to work on Wisk Aero as part of a joint venture with Boeing, despite ceasing production of its own aircraft.
Boeing invested heavily in Wisk Aero with $450 million at the beginning of this year during the most recent fundraising round.
The company released a video highlighting Kitty Hawk’s ‘Flyer’, a personal transport vehicle produced in 2017, before unveiling Cora, an autonomous plane it built.
One of the earliest eVTOL (electric vehicle takeoff and landing) vehicles was the Flyer, which later turned into initiatives from well-known companies, such as Bell Helicopter and Uber, as well as Toyota-backed Joby Aviation, Volocopter and Lilium.
