Pepsi’s California plants will use Tesla's electric truck for delivery starting this December

PepsiCo Inc announces they will be the first to receive orders of the electric vehicle when Tesla trucks arrive on 1 December 2022.

The trucks will be used at PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay plant in Modesto, California, and its PepsiCo beverages factory in Sacramento. They reserved 100 of the vehicles in 2017 as part of an ongoing effort to lower fuel costs and pollution.

Businesses in the US are taking steps to lessen their negative environmental effects. PepsiCo, for instance, wants to reach net-zero emissions by 2040.

Ramon Laguarta, CEO of PepsiCo, says transportation contributes to 10% of the company’s greenhouse output.

Elon Musk announced the commencement of the Semi truck’s manufacturing through Twitter saying the trucks had an 805-kilometre range and were ‘fun to drive’. The trucks were initially going to start in 2019, but were pushed back. Other businesses pre-ordered Tesla’s Semi trucks including United Parcel Service Inc, Walmart Canada, and food distributor Sysco Corp.

The number of Semis that will be delivered to Pepsi in December is being kept a secret by both companies.
