The skeleton’s out of the closet: Netflix plans to develop its own AAA PC game

Job listings indicate that Netflix will start making desktop games

Internet snoops have recently become aware of a curious development in the job opening’s section. It seems that Netflix has been flooding the job market with countless openings related to work on “a brand-new AAA PC game”.

AAA (pronounced and sometimes written triple-A) is an informal classification used to categorise games produced and distributed by a mid-sized or major publisher. The ‘PC’ indicates that it would be a desktop game – a massive jump, considering the fact that thus far the company has introduced only smartphone or tablet-based games.

People have been expecting a development of this sort. Just last month, Mike Verdu, head of gaming at Netflix, announced that Netflix is opening a new studio in Southern California and it would be run by Chacko Sonny – the former executive producer on Overwatch. It seems that Sonny will be in charge of the upcoming PC game.

According to the posted job descriptions, the hirees will have to develop the “world / characters / narrative that are worthy of a Netflix film/TV series.” Moreover, the company is looking for people with experience in Unreal Engine as well as first-person and/or third-person shooter games.
