Mercedes plans to charge a $1,200 subscription fee for faster acceleration

The dealership claims the update will increase power up to 24%

Mercedes now provides owners who want more performance from their electric vehicles with a $1,200 yearly package. This comes after BMW’s contentious choice to charge a monthly fee for heated seats that were previously installed in its vehicles.

The German company’s EQE and EQS electric sedans and SUVs can have the Acceleration Increase update for an annual fee that works out to $100 per month.

Spending the extra cash will unleash a higher performance for your car, the dealership claims. They say the feature can alter the electric motor’s power and torque curves and increase the maximum power output.

Power output increases for the Mercedes EQS 450 and EQS SUV from 265 kW to 330 kW and for the EQE 350 and EQE SUV from 215 kW to 260 kW.

Zero to 60 mph acceleration times are cut by 0.8 to 1.0 second. As a result, both the EQE and EQE SUV offer time savings ranging from 6.2 to 5.2 seconds.

The $1,200 annual subscription does not include any new gear, despite the hefty cost and performance increases. The performance that is enabled by this straightforward software upgrade is already physically possible for cars. A speedier and more powerful EV normally has a lower range, but Mercedes hasn’t said how the Acceleration Increase option influences estimated range.

Depending on the vehicle’s factory-specified beginning output, Mercedes claims that fine-tuning of the electric motors increases the Mercedes-maximum EQ’s motor power (kW) by 20 to 24%. Additionally the torque is increased, enabling your car to accelerate much more quickly and powerfully.
