Apple plans to shift iPhone production from China to India and Vietnam

After strikes at Chinese factories, the corporation decided to postpone the production of the iPhone

Apple has decided to speed up the transfer of iPhone production from China. The corporation is considering India and Vietnam as new assembly centres.

At the moment, about 10% of iPhones are shipped from India, but Apple is aiming to bring this figure up to 40-45%. As far as Vietnam is concerned, analysts are confident that suppliers will assemble laptops, smartwatches and AirPods in this country.

The reason for the move was problems at a factory in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou. Taiwanese iPhone assembler Foxconn went on strike over coronavirus restrictions and non-payments. Foxconn apologised to employees and paid $1,400 compensation to those who chose to quit.

The corporation said that, due to quarantine, iPhone production could be reduced by 30%, and due to strikes, 6 million smartphones were not assembled at the plant.
