Chinese company Aeroht will unveil a flying car

Last year, China’s Xpeng Aeroht staged the first public flight for its eVTOL flying car X2 that took place in Dubai. The vehicle is a two-seat aircraft that, during its first presentation, elevated itself above the viewers and flew some 30 meters further, just to elegantly lower itself on earth afterwards.

Shortly after the flight in Dubai, the company staged a second public appearance in Guangzhou, China. The flying car arm is a division of the Chinese electric vehicle producer Xpeng. Xpeng is just one of the company’s currently developing flying cars and attempting to establish dominance in the flying car market.

While some industry estimates stipulate that the market could be worth well over $1 trillion, it’s the lack of legislation that holds a break on most of the development prospects in the scene. The president of Xpeng, Brian Gu, believes that businesses have developed so many innovations that it’s time for lawmakers to respond. According to Gu, the industry has significantly developed over the last years, manifested by such technical breakthroughs as weight reduction, obstacle avoidance and electrification.

But it’s not just smooth sailing. Multiple companies are developing similar technologies, including Lilium NV, Joby Aviation Inc. and Archer Aviation Inc. – there’s plenty of money, but also plenty of competition.
