Amidst actors’ AI concerns, Netflix is seeking machine learning professionals
The streaming service remains unmoved by protests from the film industry
Netflix has introduced job openings within the realm of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The streaming giant is actively seeking a product manager for their proprietary machine learning platform, offering a salary ranging from $300,000 to $900,000.
Furthermore, the company is extending an offer of $450,000 to $650,000 for the position of Generative AI CTO at a game studio. Netflix’s AI applications will encompass content creation and payment service development.
Concurrently, the SAG-AFTRA union representing Hollywood actors is voicing opposition to the widespread integration of neural networks in the film industry. The ongoing strike by Hollywood actors and screenwriters, ongoing since mid-summer, underscores their demand for curbing AI usage, citing its growth as an “existential threat” to their profession.
In a prior instance, the British performing arts union Equity initiated the “Stop the AI that steals the show” campaign, highlighting concerns that AI could manipulate their voices and expressions to generate content, including deep fakes.
