Apple is trying to lock in the intellectual property rights to all apples

111-year-old Swiss company Fruit Union Suisse may be forced to drop its apple logo

Apple Corporation is currently seeking intellectual property rights for images of apples, posing a potential threat to the 111-year-old Fruit Union Suisse, Switzerland’s largest farming organization, whose logo features a red apple adorned with a white cross.

Jimmy Marietas, the director of Fruit Union Suisse, expressed concern over Apple’s objective to monopolize the rights to the real apple, which should ideally remain a freely accessible symbol for all. If Apple succeeds in their pursuit, the farming company would be compelled to alter its logo.

In 2017, Apple made its initial attempt to obtain an exclusive trademark for an apple image in Switzerland. While their request was granted, with the provision that the fruit image remains accessible to the public, Apple has recently filed an appeal in 2023, once again seeking exclusivity.
