China reports the US to the WTO over chip export restrictions
China claims that US bans semiconductor exports under national security guise

The Chinese authorities have filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the US government. China’s Ministry of Commerce claims that by protecting national security and imposing severe restrictions on the export of Chinese chips, America poses a threat to world stability. According to China, the US is disrupting international semiconductor technology supply chains.
At the beginning of October 2022, the US Department of Commerce restricted the export to China of chips that are used for supercomputers and artificial intelligence systems. Then the government said they were applying a comprehensive approach to protect national security.
In addition, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned some Chinese companies from selling telecommunications equipment in the country. The regulator ruled that products made by Huawei, ZTE, Hikvision, Dahua and Hytera could pose a threat to the US.
