Could the progress of AI harm human civilization? The answer may be yes

The author of the book "Creating Friendly AI" has advocated for the complete abandonment of AI technology

Eliezer Yudkowsky, an expert in artificial intelligence and author of “Building Friendly AI,” has called for a complete and indefinite cessation of AI development by both governments and private companies.

The expert contends that the prior suggestion of suspending AI development for a six-month period will not suffice in addressing the issue. Yudkowsky argues that AI is “indifferent” to intelligent life, and developers lack the ability to ensure its safety for humanity, which poses a significant threat to all living beings on Earth. Consequently, the expert advocates for an indefinite, global ban on AI development.

Yudkowsky proposes that all major training centres should be shut down and any country caught building a GPU cluster should face more significant repercussions than those of an armed conflict between nations. The expert asserts that we should be prepared to destroy unwanted data centres through air attacks.
